Preventing Injury

Learn about Sprained Ankles

If you have previously suffered an ankle injury or are looking to prevent one, an ankle brace is an effective way of keep your ankles stable while running. If you have never tried running for fitness, it is important that you don’t rush into it. Running is a high impact activity, and going in unprepared can put you at risk of injuries.

Alternative Treatments

Foot injuries shouldn’t mean giving up on your running goals. At B32 Fitness, our coaches are expe-rienced in injury management and rehabilitation. Depending on the severity of your injury, you may be able to rehabilitate your injury with alternative exercises. On the other hand, if you have suffered a more severe foot injury, a moon boot may be necessary to relieve pressure off your foot, allow-ing you to continue walking during your recovery process.

Injury Risk

Injuries can happen when the body is not used to the impact that comes from running. It is a good idea to follow a training plan which uses running and walking intervals to help build your endurance and strengthen your joints. In the long term, this can minimise your risk of injuries and increase your chances of maintaining your exercise program.

Assessment

If you do feel any instability in your foot while running, you may want to look into using an ankle brace. You may have simply over-worked the foot, and brace may help. If your shoes are in poor condition, you may need to invest in a new pair. Or you may have an injury which required medical attention.
